He’s a vivacious, adorable, invincible ginger-head, he’s Ed Sheeran!

There’s no getting-over over Ed’s Shape of You, the inescapable and catchy tune is all over the globe and we’re not mad. After his new album, Divide, was released in early March, Ed Sheeran has been dominating the charts.

Born on 17th February’1991 in Halifax, England. Ed Sheeran began playing guitar at a very young age and soon after started writing his own songs. It wasn’t long before Sheeran was recording CDs and selling them. At only 14 years of age, thinking he could find gigs in London, he left home with his guitar and a backpack full of clothes, and his musical career took a flight.

Ed is unstoppable!
Ed Sheeran has been playing the numbers game since the very beginning; it’s just that the numbers keep getting bigger. His new album Divide has enjoyed unprecedented success, notching up a string of impressive world records since the first tracks from the album were released early this year. With a staggering 672,000 first-week sales and downloads, it has sold more copies in its first week than the rest of the UK's Top 500 albums combined.
His single Shape of You became an instant hit around the world and has become the latest example of the streaming revolution in music, smashing Spotify’s record for the ‘most streams in a single week’ with 375 million. It debuted at number 1 and hasn’t moved down since then. In the album's opening weekend on Spotify, Ed smashed their ‘first day’ streams for an album with over 56 million. He also broke their best ‘one day’ streams for an artist at over 68 million and landed on their highest ‘one day’ streams for a track – a record Ed has continued to break week on week with Shape Of You, which has now peaked at 18.8 million.
The hugely-popular musician currently has a grand total of 16 tracks in the UK Top 20 – a feat which has also earned Ed the record for most simultaneous UK Top 20 singles’. The previous UK record was five simultaneous Top 20 songs, shared by Ruby Murray (1955), Bill Haley and his Comets (1956), Elvis Presley (1957) and Michael Jackson (2009).

This isn’t the first time he’s broken records!
Ed hit No. 1 on the iTunes chart before he even signed with a record label. Since signing with Atlantic, he has sold millions of records, had songs appear in The Hobbit trilogy and The Fault in Our Stars and also won a Grammy for Song of the Year, for Thinking Out Loud.
In 2015, the 26-year-old singer set a new record for ‘most consecutive weeks in UK Top 40’ with Thinking Out Loud. The ballad also took a record-breaking 19 weeks to reach No.1 on the UK's Official Singles Chart – the ‘longest time to reach No.1 on UK singles chart (one run)’ and earning him a record in the Guinness World Records.

He writes songs for other stars.
He’s already got an Ivor Novello award for songwriting. Here are a few songs that you probably didn’t know Ed wrote:
Love Yourself – Justin Bieber
Cold Water – Major Lazer ft. Justin Bieber
Everything has Changed – Taylor Swift
Moments, Eighteen, Little Things, Over Again – One Direction

He loves helping those in need!
When not making music, he’s helping people around him. Sheeran performed a gig in Bristol, which raised £40,000 for a charity that reaches out to street sex workers. "It's good to show insight that these people are real people with real emotions and they deserve the same charity work as anyone else," Sheeran said. "There are a lot more popular charities that get a lot of attention. And with certain subjects like this they're often washed over and people don't necessarily give them the attention they deserve." Recently Ed Sheeran met JD, a 14-year-old orphan who lives on the streets of Liberia, for a segment for Comic Relief telecast. Ed Sheeran was visibly moved as he heard his story and saw him being abused which reduced him to tears. Ed refused to leave until JD and his friends had been safely relocated to a better home under a responsible guardian.
When it comes to food, we’re all Ed!
Ed is a food enthusiast, while he’s been trying to eat healthy; he has a ketchup bottle tattooed on his arm because it’s his favourite condiment and a cup of tea because well, he loves tea. During a 2012 radio interview, Ed got hilariously honest about his outlook on having a chiseled body, saying, "I have never had a six-pack and will never have a six-pack, so I might as well stuff my face."
Still can’t get enough of Ed Sheeran? Well, he’s going to star in the Game of Thrones season 7. Apparently, in the Game Of Thrones, you either win a Grammy, or you die. But Ed assured us that he’ll survive his quick cameo on the massively successful HBO show, telling interviewers, “I do know which role I am going to play. I don’t die in it, I don’t die.” He has also confirmed collaborating with Eminem and we can only imagine what the dream collab is going to sound like!
